Haus T – Psychiatric Hospital Münsterlingen
Therapeutic clarity meets home-like warmth: with Bauwerk Parkett’s Formpark
Quadrato creative parquet, Haus T in Münsterlingen chooses a floor that conveys calm and structure.
In Haus T, a psychiatric hospital building in Switzerland’s Münsterlingen, therapy has been given a new look in terms of spaces, atmosphere and materials. The wooden structure stands out for its clear arrangement, abundant daylight and natural materials, bringing about an environment that communicates safety and facilitates familiarisation. The floor plays a decisive role here: thanks to its distinctive cube pattern and calm grain, Bauwerk Parkett’s Formpark Quadrato in Oak Nature affects the inner workings of the building, thus becoming a quiet driver of its therapeutic concept.
When you enter the new building in the Münsterlingen hospital area, you immediately feel that it was built differently. No cold clinic hallways, no aseptic surfaces. Instead, there is wood, light and pleasant order. Within the existing complex, the new structure sits between the former pathology wing and the community centre, setting a new standard for how to approach sensitive healthcare buildings. The wooden building’s entire atmosphere is defined not only by its compact shape, but also by its largely visible support structure. As a breathing material, wood has an equalising effect on the climate, has a subtle scent, ages beautifully, reduces stress and adds tangible warmth to the rooms. The natural quality of the material helps create a balanced indoor climate, combining cosiness, good air quality and acoustic calm – qualities that are equally critical functionally and from a therapeutic perspective. Scheitlin Syfrig Architekten emphasise that “the materials create a home-like atmosphere, intentionally distancing the project from the usual appearance of hospital buildings”
Bauwerk Parkett’s oak floor contributes to this effect. It consistently upholds the material concept as a tactile and visual connection between architecture and atmosphere. In this way, a house was built that radiates security without confining, that conveys clarity without appearing stern and forbidding. In this building, wood becomes a medium for closeness, a material that sets a balance between function, sustainability and humanity. The parquet floor regulates the indoor climate and absorbs noises, thus serving as a perfect addition to the wooden building’s thermic and acoustic features. The floor is also much more than just a surface: it makes a decisive impact on the atmosphere in the building. Over 1,200 square metres of Bauwerk Parkett’s modern Formpark Quadrato 2-layer parquet was installed in Haus T, both in the one and two-bed rooms and in the therapy and community spaces. The calm grading and distinctive cube pattern of the oak parquet bring calm and structure at the same time. The format’s 1:5 plank dimension ratio makes designs possible that go beyond conventional patterns, generating a subtle dynamic that makes the rooms livelier without causing anxiety.
