The five-storey historic building is located in Zurich’s Oberdorf, in a quiet setting near the High Court. In the listed property, we remodelled two floors, each containing a maisonette apartment.
On the third floor, we concealed a bathroom as a cabinet beneath the stairs to the attic apartment, hidden behind what appears to be a built-in cupboard. Stylistically, we took fresh inspiration from England – and will certainly do so again.
The spatial reorganisation focused primarily on the wet rooms, allowing the main living spaces to remain largely untouched. A curious challenge arose from the fact that the former had evolved over time, with no floor matching another and the drainage system having to be guessed at first.
In the attic apartment, an old kitchen made way for a new bathroom, while a new laundry tower was discreetly hidden behind a cupboard front.
