Krampnitz Primary School

In the north of the state capital Potsdam, AFF Architects were responsible for the development of the former Krampnitz barracks site. The primary school building complex comprises one new building and two modernised existing buildings. The exterior appearance of the school complex reflects the architectural structure of the surrounding area and uses historical elements such as exposed brickwork and the roof motif to interpret them in a contemporary way in line with today's requirements for a school. The façade, like the supporting structure, was constructed using prefabricated elements to form a robust facing shell with brickwork. Around 6,000 square metres of Urban L in the colour Christianshavn were used on the façade. The curtain wall bricks ensure low maintenance costs and a durable, well-aged appearance. The large window fronts also allow a generous view between the interior and exterior areas. This creates a flowing connection between the learning spaces and the open outdoor area.
