Origin

Referinghausen, Germania

Origin is part of the Open Mind Places in Referinghausen, nestled in the Sauerland region of Germany. The installation features four wooden cubes, symbolizing the origins of Referinghausen. First mentioned in a document from 1269, this village began as a settlement of four small farms, whose inhabitants depended entirely on agriculture.

The design of Origin reinterprets the traditional farmhouse typology, which was historically divided into three sections: the living part, the stable, and the storage area. This archetypal elongated structure with a gable roof has been reimagined by transforming its components from a horizontal layout to a vertical orientation, uniting them into a contemplative space.

Visitors are invited to explore the interspaces between the cubes and step inside, where they can find moments of reflection and inspiration. The space serves as an open venue for art exhibitions and community gatherings, fostering connection and creativity.
