Animating O'Hare's New Concourse
A new rendered animation gives a peek inside the new Concourse D at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. The project, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) with Ross Barney Architects, JGMA, and Arup, is now under construction and expected to be completed in late 2028.
The short, 100-second animation unveiled this week by the City of Chicago provides an update to a project first revealed in May 2024. Part of O'Hare Airport's ongoing expansion and modernization project known as the O’Hare 21 Terminal Area Plan, Concourse D is an extension of Concourse C, better known to architects as the satellite concourse of the United Airlines Terminal designed by Helmut Jahn in 1987. The animation illustrates how the new concourse makes that connection, and how the interior spaces—including the “Orchard,” seen above—will appear when done.
